"The virtue of a camera is not the power it has to transform the photographer into an artist, but the impulse it gives him to keep on looking."

Holga, anyone?

This Christmas, a very awesome friend gave me a Holga 135 as a gift. Oh, and, by the way, it's a red one! I had heard about Holga cameras, but, admittedly, not much. I thought there would be some learning involved, but there wasn't - part of the fun of shooting Holga is the lack of control you have over your images. The gift also came with a roll of black and white film, and I immediately saw in my mind a high contrast day with some snow. This past weekend, my vision became reality with the "dusting" of 8 inches of snow that hit us on Saturday morning. I shot about half the roll that day on my way to co-lead a presentation of photography tips at a local vendor fair. I'm planning on finishing the roll before the end of the week, and then I'll send it off and anxiously await my images! I'm already thinking of things I can try with my next roll of film.

For those who, like me, hadn't heard about Holga before this post, you can find more information about the line of cameras here or see samples of photos from other Holga 135 owners here and here.

I think I'm a little obsessed, and I haven't even seen my first images yet!
